SOFTWOOD...

Most modern pressure treated softwoods are extremely durable however we steer clear of cheaper softwoods which really can't stand the test of time.

Softwoods have a completely different aesthetic character to hardwoods and it really comes down to personal choice and of course budget.

HARDWOOD...

Hardwoods do tend to be more expensive than softwoods but require less maintenance and also tend to last longer.
